From Aalborg to Gibraltar: the adventures of north-west Europe come to an end

Continuing our journey aboard the Victoria Cruises Residential Ship: ahead lies the iconic coastline of Northwestern Europe, filled with exciting cities to explore.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be docking in ports we’ve never visited before – making every arrival a genuine adventure. Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Portugal all await us, leading us all the way to Gibraltar. The route is wonderfully diverse: modern metropolises, historic harbors, and charming seaside towns will alternate along the way. Watching the landscape shift from the deck and stepping ashore in a brand-new destination – that’s one of the most beautiful parts of slow travel. The spring weather in Northwestern Europe is famously unpredictable, but that only adds to the excitement. So let’s take a look at the upcoming ports where the Victoria Cruises Residential Ship will dock – and where we’ll be setting foot for the very first time.

Aalborg

Our first stop will be Aalborg, located on the Limfjord in Denmark. This welcoming northern Danish city blends Scandinavian traditions with modern urban life – we’re curious to see what it has in store for us. The port is relatively close to the city center, which we hope makes it easy to explore the main sights. The waterfront promenades, harbor atmosphere, and the Utzon Center are already on our list.

Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, is known for its contemporary architecture and one of the busiest seaports in the world – and we’re eager to visit this modern marvel. The iconic cube houses and the Markthal are already on our radar. Despite the port’s logistical scale, the city center is quite accessible, allowing for plenty of walking discoveries. We hope to catch a glimpse of everyday Dutch life too.

Calais

Situated on the French coast of the English Channel, Calais is a key transportation hub, but for us, it marks the gateway to a new French experience. This will be our first time docking in France by ship, and we’re curious to see what this town, better known for its ferries, has to offer. The local fish market, lighthouse, and opportunities for seaside walks have already caught our attention. Even in a short stop, we hope to soak in some of the coastal French atmosphere.

Le Havre (Paris)

Our journey to Paris begins at the port of Le Havre, where the Victoria Cruises Residential Ship will anchor for several days. This Normandy city is known for its modern architecture and serves as a vital gateway to the French capital. With multiple days to explore Paris, we’ll have time not only for the iconic landmarks – the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre-Dame – but also for its hidden neighborhoods. Cafés, strolls along the Seine, galleries, and bookshops await us in true Parisian style – no need to rush. Together, Le Havre and Paris offer two contrasting yet complementary faces of French culture.

Saint Helier is the capital of Jersey in the Channel Islands, a special place influenced by both British and French cultures. We’re particularly looking forward to this port for its charm, local markets, and seaside walking paths.
