Once you’ve booked your cabin on the Victoria Majestic, you’ll need to make a few more important decisions, such as whether to book shore excursions, and if so, whether to do so independently or directly with Victoria Cruises Line.
Unless you’re the type of person who simply “gets off at the port and strolls around alone,” it’s a good idea to plan ahead and decide what you’ll do on the days the ship is docked.
It will be extremely helpful to refer to the shore excursion brochure available at https://victoria.cruises/destinations/.

Choosing the Right Approach
First, decide whether you actually need to book a shore excursion, as not every port requires spending money. Some ports offer plenty of great free attractions or points of interest right at the dock. However, if you’re looking for more, booking an excursion may be a good option. The next decision is whether to book through the Cruise Line or an independent tour operator. Below are the advantages and disadvantages of each option:
Booking through the Cruise Line:
One of the most straightforward ways to book shore excursions is directly through the Cruise Line, either in advance or while on board.
Advantages: Booking directly through the Cruise Line is the easiest method, not only for making the reservation but also for actually participating in the excursion. When you disembark at the port, you’ll meet the tour organizer at a designated spot... and you’re all set to go!
Another benefit is that you’ll receive priority disembarkation on port days, which is important in ports where disembarking can be slow. The biggest advantage is that you’re guaranteed not to miss the ship’s departure since the Cruise Line takes responsibility for the sponsored tours. If the group is delayed due to the excursion running late, the ship will wait.
Disadvantages: The most popular excursions can fill up quickly. For example, if you wait to book until you're on board, you may not get a spot. Additionally, these excursions tend to be a bit more expensive compared to independent tours.
Booking an Independent Excursion
Now that you know the benefits of booking through the Cruise Line, you may be wondering why someone would choose an independent excursion. There are some definite advantages to booking your own tour, most notably the cost savings.
Advantages: Booking your own excursions gives you freedom and flexibility, plus there’s a wider range of activities to choose from.
Disadvantages: There is one major drawback to this option—the ship won’t wait if the excursion is delayed.
Both options come with substantial advantages, as well as a few notable drawbacks—and even some potential risks. The choice ultimately depends on your personal circumstances, budget, risk tolerance, and time management skills. The decision is yours to make, but each path offers a unique experience with its own set of rewards and challenges.
